Upromise - Save for College

Saving For College Without Breaking the Budget

Most likely, one of the reasons you work so hard (and pray so fervently) is to ensure your offspring will be able to get a good education, and hopefully go to a good college. In keeping with our mission; WorkingMom has researched a program that will help you accomplish this goal -almost effortlessly. And we’ve even decided to endorse it. Upromise is an idea whose time has come. In a nutshell, Upromise makes technology work for you.

As a parent, you’ve probably discovered that barely a day goes by without the need to spend money on something. Just imagine if you had a nickel for every dollar you've spent over the years....oh, but now you don’t have to imagine because it’s possible with Upromise.

Have you have noticed these signs that say “UPromise” all over the place? Those little stickers on the grocery store shelves, in the Sunday coupons, and even on some big name websites. (Like http://www.WorkingMom.com) But what is this really all about? We had Joanna Scarboro, WorkingMomsCoach do some digging. Joanna Reports:

“UPromise” is a program that gives you back money on products you buy. The great thing is it’s all done electronically! No receipts or coupons to use. What happens is you register grocery shopper’s cards, the credit cards you use or apply for the UPromise Credit card. Whenever you use a registered card for a qualified purchase, rebates are entered automatically into your UPromise Account. And it costs you nothing.

I have done a great deal of research on this and these are the ins-and-outs:

1. Look around their website for yourself.

2. It will take 5-10 minutes to go through the complete sign-up process. To get the most savings, you will be asked if you want to apply for the Upromise credit card. You can easily skip that step and proceed onto the next one. When you register your most frequently used credit cards, your purchases of participating products will generate a rebate to your Upromise savings account.

3. Even if you don’t have your cards in front of you when you first register, you can still just go back into your account and add them later. And the best part is that it doesn’t cost anything to join.

4. Next, as you go through the sign-up process, keep your eyes open for any little requests to send you promotional emails. If after signing up, you start getting unwanted promotional email then go back and update your profile. At the bottom, you will see where you can opt out of receiving it.

5. In closing, anytime you shop online, may I suggest you check the UPromise website to see if they have retail links to the store where you’re planning to shop? When you start at the Upromise site, then any online purchases with participating retailers will automatically send the rebates to your UPromise Account. (And there are literally hundreds of top name online retailers participating – GAP, Disney, Barnes & Noble, etc.)

And that’s it! Every few weeks, log on to your UPromise account and watch your savings grow! Helpful hint, spouses and grandparents can join the program – so you could triple or quadruple the amount you save and have several thousand dollars by the time your kids are ready for college, all with absolutely no sweat. Like those old sayings go “Every little bit helps, pennies make dollars, and it all adds up!”
